Tropical Storm Warning Issued for 57 Areas Across Gulf Coast

The National Weather Service Mobile office issued a Tropical Storm Warning on July 22 at 6:45 PM CDT for 57 areas across the northern Gulf Coast region. The warning encompasses coastal and inland zones from Mobile, Alabama through Louisiana, including major water bodies like Lake Pontchartrain, Mississippi Sound, and multiple bayou systems.

What This Means

A Tropical Storm Warning means tropical-storm-force winds (sustained 39-73 mph) are expected within the warning area within the next 36 hours. Residents in affected zones should prepare for strong winds, heavy rainfall, rough seas, and potential coastal flooding. If you’re in one of the 57 affected areas, conditions will deteriorate within the next day to day and a half.

Who Is Affected

This warning primarily affects residents, businesses, and infrastructure along the Alabama and Louisiana coasts, including the Mobile Bay area and greater New Orleans region. Anyone with boats, outdoor equipment, or properties in these zones should take action now. Inland residents may also experience gusty winds and localized flooding.

What to Do Now

Secure loose items: Bring in or tie down outdoor furniture, trash cans, yard decorations, and anything that could become a projectile in strong winds.

Stock essentials: Ensure you have drinking water (1 gallon per person per day for several days), non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and a battery-powered or hand-crank radio. Power outages are common during tropical storms.

Monitor updates: Keep checking official National Weather Service forecasts for track changes, intensity updates, and localized rainfall predictions. Conditions can shift, so stay informed through official channels.
